Chapter Three, The Stickiness Factor, Discussion Questions
2. The Power of the context seems to build in society in sensitive and stressful ways. People look at the environment different from each other, in the aspects of war, crime, violence, disaster, and events that effect us daily . Social content tries to help explain who we are in society, and the things that we all fight to achieve throughout our lives. We govern ourselves on what we learn is right and wrong, and follow our emotions into ideas in life that we either accept or learn to change. The environment can only change your behavior if you give in. You can stand up for yourself and make decision's that might not always be right, but then again we all learn from our mistakes.
5. I believe that if we in proved the living conditions in prisons it would make things better for our prisoners. But at the same time, there always going to have the down fall of no hope, and the aspect that life will never be the same for them. We have to derive a plan to allow a prisoner, and his mind stable and learn to feel the same in prison, as well as outside the walls.

English poems Conf, 2010

I had the opportunity yesterday to watch an English conference with panel eight in room 105. Two seniors presented there poems to us in which they had written. The 1st poem was written about the young ladies father who recently passed away. The poem caught the rooms attention due to how sad it was, and the usage of words to catch your minds attention. The young lady didn't cry as she read the poem, but you could tell it was a difficult read for her. She wrote the poem to remind herself of her father, and the great memories that she had while he was alive. I noticed the way she phrased words throughout the poem in which she wrote, she included her personal feelings as well as her inner thoughts, and sad memories. The conference was good to learn about different styles of writing, and to see the different aspects of poems that you can trans end. We also held questions at the end, and discussed the different ways in which you can start writing poems, as well as different styles that you can define in writing literature.

Discussion Chapter 3, Paul, Barbato, Dave

1. Another message presented in society daily, is smoking. This message is not beneficial, because it is addressed in a positive way, but with negative adverse health effects. Smoking is portrayed as being cool, and is advertised by celebrities and addressed all over the nation. One good side is advertising has been cut down, because of strict governmental views.

3. Tiger Woods has been in the limelight for a bad reason and it is mostly because of the media. They took something and kept picking at it until everywhere you would look you would hear about his situation. It got so big that the media began to dig deep and tried to say that Woods used steroids. They used Tiger Woods because of how popular he is to the public and knew that they could exploit him. They knew that whatever they would say about him the media would eat up. They use shock tactics alot when you deal with high profile people. Anything shocking that can be said will be said.

Chapter 2 Tipping Point

Chapter2, Tipping Point

The Law of the Few, talks about "connectors, mavens and salesman", or three types of people who help spread ideas. Gladwell is in awe of all these people, and his prose is energetic. Yet when he describes the focus groups of pre-schoolers watching Sesame Street, it just gets overcomplicated. He expresses ideas of boring coming into play.
" The Law of the Few, which Gladwell discussed in earlier chapters talked about critical factor in epidemics is the " Nature of the Messenger."(MEANING TO INFECTION).
I feel that Gladwell used this idea to support his background research, bringing a message to children. He wanted to focus on there learning aspects as well as the infection that it could have on young children. He used the TV as his needle and injected the poison into in a child's mind.
Gladwell approaches the dramatic fall in crime in New York as a "tipping point", but tries to discount the drop in crime rate: increased police presence, tougher sentencing, and, above all, a vibrant economy that lowered unemployment drastically among the underclass, those who commit crimes. His views in chapter 2 allow you to focus on what he believes in, and the sides that he begins to take throughout the chapter.

Reflective Writing, Chapter 2, Paul

Gladwells chapter 2 opened a new door, for a general understanding of new ideas of life. He summarized that The Tipping Point as a way of making sense of the world, because I'm not sure that it always makes sense to what we would like it to. He showed me a new Epidemics, from many history lessons to historical things that i never had the chance to learn about. Gladwells discussion in chapter 2 allowed me to learn how people meet people in life, and the growth of simple knowledge of friends and people skills. The Tipping Point is an examination of the social epidemics that surround us in life.

The Tipping Point, 2010

The Tipping Points are the "levels at which momentum for change becomes unstoppable". Gladwell the author describes a tipping point as a sociological term. Tipping point can be referred to the boiling point, the glass that about to tip, the climax about to explode. This book begins by explaining the mysterious sides of life, the sides that are hidden in the shadows as well as the sides that we never really hear much about. It also explains the sociological changes that mark everyday life. As Gladwell states " Ideas and products are messages and behaviors that spread like viruses do." Gladwell also states in the 1st chapter the three rules of the Tipping Point- The Law of the Few, the Stickiness Factor, the Power of Context. These rules give us a general understanding of the events of life and a shadowing of the what the book will cover in the further chapters.
